PrintExpress at Barrow-in-Furness completes the CN Group jigsaw
Cumbria Newspaper Group have chosen
to install IPA Systems’ PrintExpress Digital Workflow Software at their
new print site in Barrow-in-Furness.
There is a requirement for the production of the in-house Furness Newspapers
titles as well as a variety of contract print work. The PrintExpress
system will allow for the receipt of both single page and paired bitmap
and PDF files, the system will load-level across the two imagesetters.
Information will be automatically generated within PrintExpress and
fed to the press controls on the new Solna D400 coldset press for the
purposes of ink pre-setting.
Peter Simpson, Group Techical Director of the CN Group commented “We
went for PrintExpress because we already have it at Carlisle and are
very pleased with it. It will provide us with the ability to seamlessly
transfer jobs between our two printing sites. This is especially important
with the impending installation of our new state-of-the-art Solna D400
coldset press at Barrow. PrintExpress requires little or no operator
intervention and is a joy to run.”
Print jobs can be automatically switched between the two PrintExpress
systems, enabling CNG to utilize both presses fully and also offer a
high degree of resilience.
The Carlisle system runs on Sun hardware, in Barrow the system will
be installed on Dell PC servers.
PrintExpress is a system which manages the output of pages from pagination
systems to film or plate. It has a distributed client/server architecture
so it is ideal for complex multi-site operations involving remote transmission
as well as simpler single site systems. It can handle both PDF and bitmap
workflows and is available for both Sun/Solaris and PC/Windows platforms.
It is a highly modular and scalable system which provides exceptional
flexibility, power and resilience. The Java clients provide easy access
for monitoring and control anywhere on the network. Publication tracking
and softproofing are available using a web browser.
