Jordan Press Foundation Choose CTP Workflow from IPA Systems Ltd

The Jordan Press Foundation (JPF) publishes Al Rai an Arabic daily newspaper and The Jordan Times and English daily newspapers. Al Rai has a circulation of over 80,000 and enjoys a readership throughout the Middle East. In addition, The Jordan Press Foundation produces many other products through their commercial printing business.

The Jordan Press Foundation decided to invest in computer-to-plate technology to accompany upgrades to their Man Roland press and chose IPA Systems' pre-press workflow to support this investment.

The IPA solution generates press imposition schemes for each of the two JPF presses. These imposition schemes are then used to automate the workflow. The Jordan Press Foundation prints on double truck/panorama size plates with either two broadsheet pages or four tabloid pages imposed per plate. Having two presses with different plate sizes, the new system determines whether an individual press, or both presses will print the product. The integration of the imposition schemes with the workflow ensures the pages are produced on the correct plate size and to priority for press production.

A fundamental principle of the new system was the requirement to maximise resources to improve efficiency. To achieve this, production files are load balanced across the new RIPs, when page pairing and also at output to the new KPF Newsetters. After page pairing, page furniture for items such as video punch and bend registration targets and bar coding for sortation are automatically added.

Local and Internet soft proofing enables the editorial and production staff to monitor production status and guarantee colour quality. The generation of ink values enables the new system to integrate with the Man Roland's Pecom press control system for ink pre-setting, to aid press start-up and reduce start-up waste.

Up time on the system is monitored and supported by KPG's NewsMonitor. NewsMonitor allows 24/7 remote access to the complete CTP line including processors, conveyors and punch bend.

The investment made by the Jordan Press Foundation provides the company with the ability to provide increased colour capability, improved quality and enhanced production efficiency.
