Laserbus
and Laserplex
This system has been developed to provide a flexible and uniform connectivity
architecture between RipExpress or PrintExpress and recorders from many manufactures.
Up to 16 recorders can be daisy chained off a single RipExpress
or Laserplex output channel. Recorders
can be imagesetters, CTP devices or proofers. The system consists of a Laserbus
interface in the RIP which is supplied with the RipExpress package and is
designed for use on PCI bus PC and Sun platforms. This connects via a Laserbus
cable to a Personality Interface in, or external to the recorder(s). The Personality
Interface, which differs for each recorder type, converts the recorders native
communication protocols into those of Laserbus. This allows recorders of different types to sit
on a single Laserbus. New Personality Interface types are constantly being
added to the list.
Cables for Laserbus can be ordered in various lengths up to 50 metres depending on the recorder speed. Laserbus installation kits are available which allow connection of additional recorders to a single Laserbus.

Connection of multiple RipExpress to multiple recorders using Laserplex:

The addition of a Laserplex multiplexer allows up to eight inputs of either RipExpress or PrintExpress to drive up to eight Laserbus output channels each of which can connect to sixteen recorders. Separate print queues on each RipExpress target the separate recorders. With the addition of the IQ software on Laserplex, recorders can be grouped together providing a more resilient system.
Using the Laserbus principle as shown here, RipExpress and PrintExpress can drive many types of recorder using a range of specially developed Laserbus interfaces. Some of the recorders are listed below:
