The foundation of all Wave2 software solutions is the Wave2 Publishing Platform (W2PP). This is an open standard, modular architecture that incorporates a powerful rules engine.

The Wave2 publishing platform is built upon the latest industry standard technologies. Fully J2EE compliant, it utilises a J2EE Application Server to support it's configurable rules engine. This innovative platform provides a fully open environment for the modular components of the Wave2 software solutions.

All content is normalised in XML form and processed internally using XML standards and transformations.

The Zeus Profile Manager provides a highly configurable reader profiling tool. It automatically interrogates the Rules Engine to build a suitable query for content search, according to the reader interests and the business rules.

A powerful XML index engine provides a fast and accurate method of searching content to extract the most relevant and appropriate content, according to the business rules. Conforming to the XMLDB standards, it is capable of searching vast content indexes in seconds. Where the solution interfaces with an external digital asset management or content system, this XML index effectively searches the external database.

The Wave2 Rules Engine is a powerful Object-Oriented Rule Engine providing natural expression of business rules. It is used to define the selection of content, templates and styles, when creating a document. This may be controlled according to the reader profile supplied by the Profile Manager. Rules may be modified or created by system administrators.

The output for print or electronic delivery is created by the Formatting Engine. This is a "plug in" component and there is a Formatting Engine for each media channel supported. Currently Wave2 supports PDF, HTML and InDesign output for print and electronic distribution. Future releases will include SGML, WML and other media formats. The standard installation makes use of Adobe's InDesign layout software for automated document creation and PDF generation.

User interfaces are browser-based to reduce systems administration and to provide platform independence. The Wave2 application software is written in Java and is intended to run under Windows Server or Unix environments.
